Studio Imagebox Team: Meet Jessica! By John Mahood Our in-house wordsmith helps craft messaging for our clients in her role as Strategic Storyteller. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the woman who helps put the words in our mouths (and on our social media sites.) How long have you been with Imagebox? I started with Imagebox in March, so just over 3 months. What did you do before joining the Imagebox team? I worked for a company in the Strip District called SnapRetail for nearly two years. Snap helps local retailers market their stores online using email and social media. I started with Snap as a Social Media Specialist and then switched over to become the company’s Interactive Copywriter. What is your favorite part of your job? The best part of being a writer, in my opinion, is that you get to learn so much about a variety of fields. Our clients are each unique, from financial planners to DJs to educational services. One day I might be researching immigration laws and the next day I get to hear a client talk about the importance of creating more green space in urban areas. I have the amazing opportunity to collect and organize a ton of interesting information, all while making connections with businesses hoping to make Pittsburgh a better place to live and work. What do you love most about Pittsburgh? The Strip District on a Saturday morning! I feel like the Strip embodies all of the great people, food, and culture that make Pittsburgh unique. I always make a stop for bread at Mancini’s, produce at Stan’s Market, and coffee at Allegheny Coffee & Tea Exchange! What advice would you give to someone looking to become a copywriter? Freelance! It’s a great way to build your portfolio, learn more about new industries, and make some money on the side. If you are truly passionate about the work, you won’t mind giving up some of your free time. Describe yourself in five words. Communicative, vivacious, well-read, driven, playful. When you’re not crafting stories for Imagebox clients, what do you like to do in your free time? I do a lot of reading and writing in my free time. I’m a hockey fan and love going to concerts and shows around Pittsburgh. I like to travel and love discovering quirky things about a city. But I love exploring Pittsburgh, too. I like to frequent used bookstores and thrift shops. Networking and social media are huge in my life, also. What is your favorite quote? Well, I have 889 quotes pinned to my “Quote” board on Pinterest, but if I had to narrow it down to one that describes me, my work, and my personality, it would be, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” For more from Jessica, check out her blog posts. «Can’t Find a Networking Group?
